Privacy policy

Lectelo is based in Israel and helps lecturers write exams from their own teaching material. This page explains what we keep, who else handles it, and how to remove it. For any question, write to lectelo@gmail.com.

What we collect

Your account: your name and email address. Your teaching material: the text we extract from your files, with file names and page locations. We read each file to extract its text and do not keep the original file. Your work: courses, blueprints, exams, questions, your edits and your approvals. Usage: how many AI calls and questions your account uses, so we can apply daily limits. Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies: the pages you visit, what you click and do, and any errors you run into, with your browser, IP address, approximate location and account number. This includes session replays: recordings of the layout of each screen and of your clicks and scrolling, with all text, typing and images hidden. We do not collect your name, your email or the text on the page. Our hosting providers also keep technical logs, such as IP addresses, to run and protect the service.

How we use it

We use your data to run Lectelo for you, apply usage limits, fix problems and contact you about your account. We do not sell your data, show ads, or use your material to train AI models.

What goes to AI

To draft and check questions, we send passages from your files and the details of your blueprint to OpenAI. OpenAI's API policy says this data is not used to train its models by default and is kept for up to 30 days to monitor abuse. Please do not upload personal information about students or patients.

Who else handles your data

OpenAI drafts and checks questions. Supabase holds the database and handles sign-in. Render runs our servers. Vercel serves the website. Google handles sign-in if you choose it. PostHog measures how Lectelo is used, if you accept analytics cookies. Your data is stored in the United States, so it may be handled outside your country. We may also share data if the law requires it.

Who can see your material

Other Lectelo users cannot see your material or exams, and nothing is published. The people who run Lectelo can reach the database. They look at your data only when needed to fix a problem, help you, or meet a legal duty.

Cookies and browser storage

We use one cookie to remember your language and one to remember your analytics choice. Your browser also stores your sign-in and your display preferences. If you accept analytics cookies, PostHog stores an ID in a cookie and in browser storage to recognize your browser. They are not set unless you accept, and you can change your choice at any time under Cookie settings, at the bottom of this page or in Settings. We use no advertising cookies. Google may set its own cookies if you sign in with Google.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your data until you delete it or ask us to delete your account. You can delete files, exams and questions in the app. Deleting a file removes its stored text, but questions already made from it keep their source excerpt until you delete them. Deleting an exam leaves its questions in your question bank until you delete them. To delete your account and everything in it, write to lectelo@gmail.com. We will do it within 30 days. Copies in backups may last a little longer, until they are replaced. Usage counts may stay, with no link to you.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to lectelo@gmail.com. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, including complaining to your data protection authority.

Security

Data travels over encrypted connections, and every request is checked against the account that owns the data. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your data, we will tell you.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, we update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will email you first. Lectelo is meant for faculty and is not for anyone under 18.
